Body Contouring
Thigh Lift in West Palm Beach, FL
Reshaping the thigh after weight loss, where skin has outlasted the volume it once held.
Also called: thighplasty, inner thigh lift, medial thigh lift
Thigh Lift in West Palm Beach, FL is performed by Dr. Albert Carlotti at BellaNova Cosmetic Surgery's state-registered Level III surgical center at 1261 S Congress Ave in West Palm Beach.
The inner thigh is one of the least forgiving areas of the body after significant weight loss. The skin there is thin, mobile and poorly supported, and once it has stretched it does not retract. The result is chafing, difficulty with clothing and a contour that does not reflect the effort that produced the weight loss.
A thigh lift removes that skin. Like brachioplasty, it involves a scar, and the recovery asks more of patients than most body procedures because the area is under constant motion and is difficult to keep still.
Am I a candidate for thigh lift?
A thigh lift is considered for:
- Loose inner thigh skin that does not retract, usually after major weight loss
- Chafing, irritation or skin breakdown between the thighs
- Contour irregularity that persists after liposuction
- A stable weight for at least six months
Patients with good skin quality and predominantly fat excess do better with liposuction alone. Realistic expectation setting matters here more than in most procedures — scars in this area are less predictable than elsewhere.
Incision options
Medial (inner) thigh lift with a groin incision. The scar sits in the crease where the thigh meets the groin, hidden by underwear. Suitable for laxity concentrated in the upper third. Limited reach further down the leg.
Vertical medial thigh lift. The incision extends down the inner thigh toward the knee. Necessary when laxity extends the length of the leg, most often after massive weight loss. More powerful, more scar.
Outer or lateral thigh lift. Usually performed as part of a circumferential lower body lift addressing the outer thigh, buttock and abdomen together, with the scar sitting at the belt line.
Liposuction is commonly combined to reduce volume before the skin envelope is redraped. Fixation of the deep tissue to the fascia is used in medial lifts to prevent the scar migrating downward — a well-recognized problem when the closure relies on skin alone.
Recovery timeline
Every recovery is individual. This is the pattern most patients follow, and you will receive a written plan specific to your procedure.
| When | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Days 1–5 | Limited mobility and specific positioning instructions. Compression garment. This is the most demanding early recovery of the body procedures. |
| Days 7–14 | Drains removed if used. Walking increasing. Many patients return to desk work at two weeks. |
| Weeks 3–4 | Activity increasing. No wide-legged movement or deep stretching. Garment continues. |
| Weeks 6–8 | Progressive return to exercise, cleared individually. |
| Months 3–6 | Swelling resolved. Contour clear. Scars fading. |
| Months 12–18 | Scar maturation largely complete. |
Risks and considerations
Risks include wound healing problems (higher here than in most areas because of tension, movement and proximity to the groin), scar widening or downward migration, seroma, infection, lymphedema and persistent leg swelling, altered sensation, asymmetry, distortion of the labia or groin from a medial lift under tension, and the need for revision.
Cost and financing
Cost depends on the pattern used and whether liposuction or other post-weight-loss contouring is combined. See cost and financing.

Thigh Lift: questions patients ask
Where will the thigh lift scar be?
Either in the groin crease, hidden by underwear, or extending down the inner thigh when laxity requires it. Thigh scars are among the less predictable in body contouring and this is discussed frankly before scheduling.
Will liposuction tighten my thighs instead?
Only with good skin quality. Removing fat from beneath lax thigh skin worsens the appearance.
How long is the recovery?
Two weeks before most patients return to desk work, six to eight weeks before full activity. Early recovery is more restrictive than for most body procedures.
Can it be combined with other procedures?
Yes, frequently as part of a staged post-weight-loss plan with abdominoplasty or a lower body lift. Total operative time governs what is combined safely.
