A patient came to see me with two facelift quotes from two other practices. One was nearly double the other. Her question was reasonable: "Is the expensive one overcharging, or is the cheap one leaving something out?"
The honest answer was that I needed more detail. One quote covered only the surgeon’s fee. The other bundled anesthesia, the facility, a neck lift, and a year of follow-up. They described different treatment plans and different ways of presenting the bill.
This is a common source of confusion I see around facelift pricing, and it is fixable. Here is what I include when I quote a facelift at BellaNova in West Palm Beach, and what I would want you to ask any surgeon. For our current starting price and payment options, visit our cost and financing page.
Comparing facelift quotes: are you being quoted the same operation?
The word “facelift” can describe operations with different techniques and different areas of treatment. One plan may focus on the lower face; another may include more extensive face and neck work. The name alone does not tell you what is included.
Before you look at a single number, confirm:
- Which technique? Ask what tissue layers will be treated, why that approach suits your anatomy, and how it affects the scope and operating time. Names such as SMAS, deep plane, or my 4D Facelift need an explanation, not just a price.
- Which areas? Confirm what is planned for the cheeks, jawline, and neck. A facelift may improve jowls, but specific neck work may be needed to address neck bands or loose neck skin. Ask whether that work is included.
- Who is operating? Will the surgeon you consulted with perform your surgery? Ask about relevant training, board certification, facelift experience, and availability after surgery.
If two quotes describe different operations, stop comparing prices and start comparing what each operation will actually accomplish for your face.
Surgeon fee vs. anesthesia fee vs. facility fee: the three core components
Three core costs to identify are the surgeon, anesthesia, and facility fees. They may be bundled or listed separately. A complete written quote explains how each is covered and identifies any other charges.
1. The surgeon's fee
This is what you pay for the surgeon’s judgment, skill, and time: planning the procedure, performing it, and managing your recovery. Experience, procedure complexity, and location can influence the fee. A published “average facelift cost” may describe this component alone, so check what the source includes.
2. The anesthesia fee
Who is providing your anesthesia, and what type is planned: general anesthesia, IV sedation, or local anesthesia with sedation? Ask about the provider’s qualifications, whether the fee is included or billed separately, and whether additional operating time changes the charge. A CRNA is a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
3. The facility fee
Where will surgery take place: an office-based surgical suite, an ambulatory surgery center, or a hospital? The facility fee covers the operating room, nursing staff, equipment, and supplies. Ask about accreditation and why the proposed setting is appropriate for your procedure and health history.
How BellaNova handles all three: one global fee
At BellaNova, we provide one global fee for the agreed surgical plan. It includes the surgeon, pre-operative care and teaching, our state-registered Level III on-site surgical suite, nursing staff, anesthesia provided by a CRNA, and post-operative care. Implant costs are included when implants are part of that plan. One post-operative garment is provided at no charge. Additional supplies and applicable skin care are itemized separately, as is 23-hour observation at our facility with two nurses per patient when required or desired.

Combined procedures: what each facelift quote includes
Combined procedures can account for a substantial difference between quotes. Ask specifically whether the quote includes:
- Neck lift / platysmaplasty — treatment of the neck and, when indicated, the platysma muscle. Confirm whether it is part of the facelift plan or separately priced.
- Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) — upper, lower, or both.
- Facial implants — enhancing contour at the cheeks, chin, jaw angles and jawline, temples (temporal implants), and under-eye area (tear-trough implants).
- Skin resurfacing — CO2 laser, which I frequently combine with a lift when appropriate. A lift repositions tissue; resurfacing addresses skin texture and other surface concerns.
- Brow lift — commonly combined with a facelift.
A lower quote may cover less than you want to address. A higher quote may include procedures you do not need. Your consultation should explain the purpose, trade-offs, and added recovery of each recommendation.
Follow-up care: what happens after surgery day
Recovery arrangements deserve the same attention as the operation itself. Ask:
- How many post-operative visits are included, and for how long?
- How do I reach the team after hours, and when will the surgeon be contacted?
- Are dressings, garments, and post-op skin care products included?
- What is the policy on revision surgery if something needs adjustment?

What typically requires a separate fee — and should be disclosed up front
A quote can be complete while still identifying expenses payable to other providers or optional services. Ask which items are separate and who will bill you. Examples include:
- Pre-operative lab work, EKG, or medical clearance from your primary physician
- Prescription medications
- Compression garments or specialized post-op skin care
- Overnight observation, private nursing, or home health services, when required or chosen
- Any additional procedures added after the quote
- Revision surgery, depending on the practice's policy

A word on "national average" facelift costs
Read the source’s definition before comparing a national average with your quote. For example, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons states that its published facelift average excludes anesthesia, operating room facilities, and other related expenses. That figure is a reference point for part of the bill, not an individualized total. Also check the year and whether combined procedures are included.
What about six-figure facelift prices?
Six-figure face and neck lift prices have been reported in Vogue. Such reporting is not an itemized bill for a particular patient. It cannot tell you whether a quoted total includes additional procedures, private nursing, travel, or other services.
Use the same questions at any price: What is the proposed operation? Who performs it? Where does it take place? What care follows? A high fee alone does not guarantee a particular result. Assess the surgeon’s relevant experience, the proposed plan, and the care provided alongside the price.
Questions to ask at your facelift consultation
Bring these questions to every consultation and ask for the answers in writing:
- Exactly which procedure and which areas does this quote cover?
- Does this price include the surgeon, anesthesia, and facility? If not, what will each cost?
- Who provides the anesthesia, and where is the surgery performed? Is the facility accredited?
- Which combined procedures are you recommending, and why?
- How many post-op visits are included, and for how long?
- What is your revision policy?
- What will I pay separately — labs, prescriptions, garments?
- What are your relevant training, board certification, and facelift experience, and will you personally perform my surgery?
- How long is this quote valid, and what are the deposit, cancellation, and refund terms?
- How are unexpected care needs or additional treatment billed?
How BellaNova quotes a facelift
Following your consultation with me, our Patient Care Coordinator, Kristina, will provide your treatment plan and a written quote identifying the global fee, any recommended additions, and separate charges. She will review financing options, explain the deposit, and confirm that final payment is due at your pre-operative appointment, usually two to three weeks before surgery. She will also help coordinate a surgical date, medical clearance, and follow-up appointments.
